Tips for working at home

Writer: Dustye Beecher Dustye Beecher

I started working from home a little under a year ago. It's one hundred percent different from the way I imagined it. I am so thankful for the opportunities I've had that has allowed me to start working from home . It was honestly just perfect timing with the engagement, moving, getting married and so on.

Your Planner will become your best friend. You need to find reasons to get out of the house and you will be both annoyed and so thankful having a dog that needs to go outside. So here are my top 4 tips to working from home successfully. If you do learn that it can be too much, a lot of cities will let you rent out office on a month to month plan. Or I suggest finding a coffee shop that doesn't mind you working throughout the day there make sure that you tip good though, you're hogging up a table keeping them from getting multiple tips.

Stay moving!

Make sure that you are getting the exercise, go to a gym, run the neighborhood, do home workouts. Just make sure that you're moving. I personally do runs and Beachbody workouts. I love their on demand program. it's cheaper than a gym, and if I decide I would like to go to one I do a guest pass. It works out perfect for me and I enjoy it. Working out gets me started for the ay, creates the endorphins I need for the day as well as helping my body from getting too stiff. Sitting all day is a lot of tension on your joints. So keep moving, get fresh air.

The Isolation is Real

If you aren't careful than make sure that you have plans at least once or twice a week you will go crazy. Find a reason to get out of the house, make lunch plans, grab a coffee with a friend, volunteer. If you don't, grocery shopping will turn into you "going out", and you will begin to notice yourself getting all dolled up for Wally World.

Stay Focused

The dishes are in the sink, you could go through all of your clothes, deep clean something. Working from home means that you are distracted from all the things that you could be doing at home. The best way to handle this is either A. find somewhere that you can go to focus, We have a little local café nd a home office I can lock myself away from it all. give yourself an hour before or after your scheduled time to work on the house. Clean the dishes or whatever. No this does not mean ignore your kids, you are always a parent first. Period but as far as the little things, it will be fine for a few hours.

The Absolute Rule

Get up and get dressed. I know this sounds simple and silly . Like a no brainer but when you're at home it is so easy to just grab the laptop stay in your pajamas and listen to Netflix while you "work". You getting up will give you more of a sense of structure. It will be the beginning of your day. I'm not saying get up with the pencil skirt or pant suit. You just need to be dressed for the day, change out of your pajamas, wash your face, and make your bed. Now you are ready to work from home.
